The project area is located on the Western limb of the regional Muswellbrook Anticline and is centred around the Calool Syncline - a broad, flat and southerly plunging local syncline.Bedding generally dips either south west, south or south east, at dips of 1-4o, depending on location in relation to the Calool Syncline (Figure 1.5.2). Three east–west cross-sections across the project area are shown in Figure 3. Local areas of steeper dips of up to 8o exist around some of the faulted areas.
The project area is separated from the MAN open cut areas by a zone of steeply dipping
bedding known as The Monocline. The zone strikes north northwest – south southeast (see
Figures 1.5.2 & 1.5.3) and is an offshoot from a larger steep dip zone seen in the south
eastern parts of ML1358. Dips across the Monocline generally range from 10-15o. The area
to the west of the toe of the Monocline has dips in the order of 1-4o and is suitable for
underground mining. The dips across the Monocline are too steep for large scale underground mining, although some limited workings such as access headings or limited first workings may be possible. The area to the east of the toe of the Monocline has been excluded from underground resource estimations.
